Freezing rain or rain is expected Sunday afternoon and continuing to Monday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions.

Environment Canada has issued the freezing rain warning for Newmarket and throughout York and Durham regions.

"Travel is expected to be very poor Sunday into Monday, especially over higher terrain where colder temperatures will result in more ice build-up on untreated surfaces," according to the weather warning. "Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous."

Utility outages may also occur.

Temperatures are expected to remain near the freezing mark, resulting in precipitation falling as freezing rain or rain, the weather service said.

Ice accumulation of 10 to 15 mm is possible.

Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing near midday Monday changing any freezing rain into rain.
