The Aurora Sports Hall of Fame (ASHoF) proudly unveiled a new display case at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex (AFLC) last week, marking a significant milestone as the organization’s first venture beyond its primary location at Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex.

“We’re excited to share the amazing accomplishments of some of our Hall of Famers at our new display case and encourage visitors to continue learning about other Hall of Famers at our official home,” said Javed S. Khan, President & Chair of ASHoF.

Michelle Johnson, a member of ASHoF’s curation team, said “We are thrilled to be part of ASHoF’s efforts in curating this new space. It has been a great honour working with the Hall to bring these stories to life and inspire our community with the legacy of our local sports heroes.”

The design and planning process was a joint venture between ASHoF and two staff from the Aurora Museum & Archives: Michelle Johnson, Collections & Exhibitions Coordinator, and Jeremy Hood, Museum Collections Technician. The inaugural exhibit is a tribute to the 2024 Summer Olympics, spotlighting Hall of Famers associated with summer sports featured in the Games.

This move is part of ASHoF’s ongoing efforts to increase brand visibility and honour the influential figures in Aurora’s sports scene – the athletes, coaches and builders who have left an indelible mark on the community’s sporting culture.

The display case, a legacy piece from the Master Ducks, is seen as a key element in ASHoF’s mission to engage a wider audience and foster deeper community ties.

ASHoF aims to refresh the display biannually. The exhibit will also serve as a portal to educational initiatives, offering insights into Aurora’s sports heritage.

The display is located at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex (AFLC), 135 Industrial Parkway North and is open to view in conjunction with the AFLC’s hours of operation. For more information, please visit aurorashof.ca.
