The CFUW Aurora/Newmarket Home & Garden Tour goes into full bloom on June 11. You don’t want to miss this unique event that supports educational opportunities for women in the community.
In 1957, a group of 10 women formed a club with the goal of supporting women’s education. Now, 66 years later, the Canadian Federation of University Women Aurora/Newmarket (CFUW A/N) is a thriving organization that has made an incredible difference for both individuals and for the community. Since 1985, the club has given more than $250,000 to more than 350 students, including $25,500 to 14 students in 2022.
Now in its second year, the Home & Garden Tour is a collaborative success that has raised the number and value of scholarships CFUW A/N can offer.
The 2023 tour is already shaping up to be an event to remember.
Anne Marie Devine, CFUW A/N Communications, says, “The Home & Garden Tour was the dream of Jean Fraser, one of our members. She had seen it in other locations and knew it would be a success here. We planned it for a year and a half but COVID happened and we were not sure what the future of the tour would entail. Last year we were finally able to go ahead.”
It was a game changer.
“We raised $27,000,” smiles Devine. “We had not done anything like that before in the history of the club nor raised so much through one event!”
This year the goal is to raise $30,000.
Devine says, “Tickets are $40 and they make for an amazing day out. Consider tickets as a Mother’s Day gift, a mom and daughter day, a bachelorette or just a day to try something new. Sponsors also love the event because they know 100% of their sponsorship dollars go right into the scholarship fund.”
During the tour guests will visit a variety of locations to see innovative architecture, historical homes and stunning interior designs. Gardens overflowing with trees, flowers and produce are as beautiful as they are relaxing. Guests will come away with ideas for their own homes and gardens, while also knowing their special day is empowering a deserving woman’s educational journey.
