NewRoads Lakeride Early Bird pricing is on now! If you are an individual or a family who would like to take part in a wonderful day of biking, community, and helping Southlake Mental Health Unit, you need to register today.

“NewRoads Automotive Group has been organizing the Lakeride for nine years now,” explained NewRoads’ Community Liaison and Brand Manager, Rachel Hawtin. “We have raised close to half a million dollars, so far, for Southlake’s Mental Health Unit.”

The monies raised so far have been instrumental in building and outfitting the NewRoads Emergent Mental Health Assessment Unit at Southlake. This is a special wing of the hospital where mental health patients can be taken for intake and assessment, away from the regular Emergency Room.

The ninth annual Lakeride is happening September 22. There are 10, 20, 45, 80, and 125 km options, for riders of all ages and abilities, including families. Early bird registration fees are just $99 and that special rate goes until June 9. After that, the registration fee is $149.

“The longer rides, especially, are really lovely,” enthused Hawtin. “The 125 km ride goes all the way to Lake Simcoe, and you actually ride along the lakefront for quite a way. We also have a check in point there, right on the lake.”

All the longer routes head out of Newmarket towards the lake, while the shorter rides are more central. All routes begin at the NewRoads Performing Arts Centre, in Newmarket. “We have a staggered start,” explained Hawtin. “That’s so everyone gets back more-or-less at the same time. Then, everyone can enjoy a big lunch, live music, and speeches to end the day.”

Race leader this year is, once again, World Cup Gold Medalist rider, Ed Veal. “He is an extremely talented athlete, and so kind and motivated to help us with the ride. I just spoke to him the other day, and he is really looking forward to it,” said Hawtin.

Hawtin is encouraging everyone, and especially families, to come out to the ride. She finished, “It’s a really fun day out, getting exercise and fresh air together, and gathering to support a truly special and important cause, and help our community. It really doesn’t get any better than that.”
