As the job market becomes increasingly competitive, it is important for individuals to have the education and skills necessary to succeed in their chosen field.
Unfortunately, for many Newmarket and area residents, completing high school or meeting the academic requirements for a college diploma program or job can be a significant barrier. That is where Georgian College’s (Georgian) Academic and Career Preparation (ACP) program comes in.
The free ACP program provides students with a goal-directed, flexible and supportive academic upgrading experience. It accommodates the realities of daily life, while allowing students to bring their reading, writing, math and other essential skills up to a high-school level.
Students develop skills for success and computer skills to support their goals, improve their study strategies and likelihood of success in postsecondary education, and can even receive a credential equivalent to a Grade 12 diploma.
Who should register?
The ACP program is designed for Ontario residents who are 19 or older and:
- did not finish high school; or
- finished high school but lack the necessary academic requirements for a college diploma program, a Georgian degree-level program, an apprenticeship or a job; or
- want to update or refresh their 21st-century skills for school or work.
ACP program focus
ACP provides academic upgrading funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development to individuals who want to go back to school or plan a career change. It focuses on helping students become more confident, comfortable, and capable in their education, career or training pursuits.
