A man has been charged after allegedly threatening Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and others online.

York Regional Police assisted Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in arresting a man who “allegedly posted an online video making violent threats towards the prime minister, the police and any security personnel who might attempt to interfere with his plans,” RCMP said in a news release.

RCMP in the Greater Toronto Area received information and began an investigation to identify and locate the suspect “and defuse the risk as quickly as possible.”

“The RCMP take all threats to the public seriously. Threats to our national security can come in many forms and Canada is not immune. We are aware of the heightened security environment for public officials and the danger this presents for all Canadians. Our No. 1 priority has been, and will always be, the safety and security of Canadians.”

Dawid Zalewski, 33, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of uttering threats.
