VIDEO: Woman carjacked at knifepoint in Richmond Hill plaza

Victim’s Mercedes SUV was later located abandoned in Toronto

A woman was sitting in her vehicle in a plaza parking lot in Richmond Hill when a man armed with a knife approached and demanded the keys, before fleeing with her vehicle Wednesday.

In a surveillance video, suspects are seen arriving in a black Honda CRV prior to the carjacking at the plaza at Highway 7 East and Leslie Street on July 24 at approximately 5 p.m., a York Regional Police news release stated.

One suspect is seen exiting from the passenger side before confronting the woman in a black 2023 Mercedes GLE sport utility vehicle (SUV). Both vehicles then leave the area.

The Honda CRV was later located abandoned in Mississauga, and investigators learned it was stolen in Toronto the previous day.

The victim’s Mercedes SUV was later located abandoned in Toronto. The suspects are still outstanding and there are no suspect descriptions.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online.
