Police are looking for a suspect who they say threatened loss prevention officers with a knife at an LCBO store in Vaughan.

On Wednesday at about 8 p.m., York Regional Police officers responded to the LCBO in the area of Dufferin Street and Major Mackenzie Drive. Two loss prevention officers were trying to detain a suspected shoplifter, who resisted and assaulted one of the officers, police said in a news release.

The suspect broke free, pulled out a knife and pointed it at the officers before running to an awaiting vehicle with an unidentified driver, police said.

The loss prevention officers did not suffer physical injuries.

The suspect is described as a Black man, 25 to 30 years old, standing five-foot-eight, with a medium build and short black and red hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, light-blue jeans and black shoes and was carrying a dark-coloured backpack.

The suspect vehicle is a white, four-door sedan with a black spoiler on the trunk, with the word ‘SECURITY’ on it.
