Police release images of man wanted in Vaughan shooting homicide

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are seeking assistance to identify a person of interest in connection with a homicide investigation in the City of Vaughan.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020 shortly after 5:30 p.m., York Regional Police were called to a strip plaza located at 8074 Islington Ave. for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a male victim outside who was suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, who has been identified as Marwan Awdi, 32, from the City of Toronto, was pronounced at the scene.

A stolen black Ford F150 pickup truck that was seen fleeing from the scene was later recovered by police thanks to tips from the community.

Investigators are seeking assistance to identify a person of interest who is believed to have connections to the pick-up truck. Investigators are releasing photos that were obtained in the area of Jane Street and Shoreham Drive in North York. Anyone who can identify this person are asked to come forward.

Investigators continue to appeal to anyone with information who have not yet spoken to police to please come forward.
