Ontario Provincial Police say one person remains in critical condition after rocks were thrown at moving vehicles in Markham last month, resulting in a serious crash in which two people suffered life-threatening injuries.

The Aurora OPP said they believe the rock-throwing incidents — nine in total over the past month — are all linked to the same vehicle and suspect or suspects.

Police say on Sept. 20 they received three separate reports of rocks being deliberately thrown at moving vehicles by a passing vehicle or person.

"One of these incidents resulted in a serious collision, in which two individuals suffered life-threatening injuries," police said in a news release.

"One of those individuals has since stabilized and is in recovery, while the second victim remains in critical condition in hospital."

Since then, investigators have identified six more rock throwing incidents in the Markham area.

All nine incidents occurred within the last month and have caused damage to vehicles and endangered the public, police said.

Investigators said they believe the vehicle connected to the incidents is a dark-coloured SUV but provided no other information.

The Aurora OPP said it is conducting the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

Anyone who has seen anything suspicious or has any information, dash cam or surveillance video that may assist the investigation, is urged to contact the Aurora OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
