One person arrested, another in hospital after gunshots in King

UPDATE, 3:20 p.m.:

The school board, conseil scolaire catholique monavenir, said the incident did not occur on school property and no student from École secondaire catholique Renaissance was involved.

UPDATE, 1:13 p.m.:

York Regional Police confirmed a school in the immediate area was placed into a lockdown.

École secondaire catholique Renaissance in Aurora sent a letter to families stating that it was under a lockdown at the police's request this morning. Students were to remain in or go to the nearest secure area, stay quiet and out of sight, and turn off cellphones. 

Police then requested a hold and secure. All exterior doors were locked, and access to and exit from the school were controlled. Regular school activities continued. 

The hold and secure was lifted around 8:45 a.m.

A suspect has been arrested in connection to a report of gunshots Thursday morning in King, police say.

York Regional Police located a male with gunshot wounds at 7:53 a.m. in the area of Bathurst Street and Bloomington Road. The injured man was transported to hospital, his status is unknown to police at this time.

Police say the incident is targeted. However, the investigation is in the early stages and ongoing.
