Newmarket, Oshawa men charged with murder of fellow inmate

A 28-year-old Newmarket man and a 34-year-old Oshawa man have both been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of a fellow inmate at the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay.

Kawartha Lakes Police Service were called to the facility on July 14 where they found an inmate with serious injuries, according to a news release.

The inmate was transported to Ross Memorial Hospital by emergency medical services and then airlifted to Kingston General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have identified the victim as 58-year-old Andre Taillefer of Kingston.

Hunter Owen of Newmarket and Jason Larocque of Oshawa have been charged.

The accused were scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at 440 Kent St W. in Lindsay on July 24. The case was remanded until Aug. 8.

All inmate deaths in the province are investigated by the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
