A Mazda had its roof removed, airbags deployed, windows removed, and windshield shattered at a collision at Mulock Drive and Sandford Street on June 21.

A 40-year-old Newmarket man passed away in hospital yesterday from injuries sustained in a June 21 collision in Newmarket.

The man was involved in a two-vehicle collision when a vehicle entered the intersection against a red light on Mulock Drive at Sandford Street at about 10 a.m. June 21, York Regional Police said.

A black Mazda and black Toyota collided resulting in one person being transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police then reported the person was in stable condition at the time.

The identity of the man will not be released by police

Two other people were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The driver of the Mazda succumbed to his injuries,” said York Regional Police Const. James Dickson. “Our major collision investigation bureau has taken over the investigation.

"No additional charges have been laid at this time but the investigation is ongoing.”

A 27-year-old woman has been charged with a criminal offence.

The scene of the collision was shut down for most of the day for the investigation, with traffic blocked from entering the area on Mulock, Yonge Street, Bayview Avenue, and both northbound and southbound lanes of Sandford.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision, to come forward. Videos can be uploaded online.
