Five people charged in string of break-ins in York, Peel, Toronto

Police believe Chilean citizens came to Canada 'for the purpose of committing criminal offences'

Five people from Chile have been charged in relation to a series of break-ins in York Region, Peel Region and Toronto.

On Dec. 13, police were investigating a group of suspects believed to be responsible for residential break-ins.

At about 7:50 p.m., the suspects committed a break-in in the area of Avenue Road and Wilson Avenue in Toronto. The same suspects then attempted a second break and enter in the area of Indian Road and Woodeden Drive in Mississauga, York Regional Police said in a news release.

They then returned to a rental property in the area of Burnhamthorpe Road and Eternity Way in Oakville. Police followed one suspect to a gas station, where he was arrested.

As officers were getting ready to execute a search warrant, four other suspects fled the residence and were arrested with the help of the Halton Regional Police Service.

The search warrant turned up numerous items of jewelry and other valuables.

Police have linked the accused to six break-ins.

“Due to the number of items recovered, investigators are still working to process the evidence. A Dropbox folder will be created in the coming weeks and subsequent media releases will be made available to the public to assist investigators in returning stolen property to rightful owners,” police said in a news release.

Investigators believe the accused are in the country “for the purpose of committing criminal offences.” Their photos have been released as police believe there may be more victims.

Michael Brandon Fornells Quezada, 27, has been charged with the following:

Jonathan Alexis Gamboa Carrancio, 36, has been charged with the following:

  • Break and enter (six counts)
  • Break and enter with intent
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Participating in activities of a criminal organization
  • Disguise with intent
  • Conspiracy to commit
  • Obstructing police

Claudio Andres Valdes Poblete, 39, has been charged with the following:

  • Break and enter (six counts)
  • Break and enter with intent
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Participating in activities of a criminal organization
  • Disguise with intent
  • Conspiracy to commit
  • Obstructing police

Ricardo Javier Parada Neirda, 35, has been charged with the following:

  • Break and enter (six counts)
  • Break and enter with intent
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Participating in activities of a criminal organization
  • Disguise with intent
  • Conspiracy to commit
  • Obstructing police

Daniel Arturo Reyes Miranda, 32, has been charged with the following:

  • Break and enter (six counts)
  • Break and enter with intent
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Participating in activities of a criminal organization
  • Disguise with intent
  • Conspiracy to commit
