With more snow expected in central Ontario this weekend, police are urging drivers to exercise caution.

“Winter driving conditions can be unpredictable, with icy roads, heavy snowfalls, and reduced visibility creating challenges for drivers,” Central Region OPP said in a news release.

“Slow down and adjust your driving to the current road and weather conditions and leave extra space between vehicles as stopping distances are more than double on snow- or ice-covered roads.”

Police encourage drivers to have survival kits in their vehicles. Information about what to include in a survival kit can be found here. Some of the recommended items include a shovel, a blanket, warm clothes, high-energy foods, booster cables, a flashlight, matches and a candle.

Cellphones should also be charged at all times in case emergency services need to be contacted.
