A Kitchener driver faces impaired charges in connection with a fatal collision in Markham Monday night.
A sport utility vehicle crossed the centre line and struck a hatchback travelling in the opposite direction Nov. 11 at approximately 7:45 p.m. in the area of Highway 7 East and Reesor Road, according to a York Regional Police news release.
The 68-year-old male driver of the hatchback suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene, while the passenger of the hatchback was transported to hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The driver of the SUV was arrested and taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Carolyn Nielsen, 42, is charged with: dangerous operation causing death; dangerous operation cause bodily harm; impaired operation cause death; and impaired operation cause bodily harm.
Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision, to call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online.
