York Regional Police has seized a loaded firearm and charged a man with numerous offences after responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle in Markham early Saturday.

A concerned citizen had contacted police to report a pickup truck that had been idling in the area of Kelly Crescent and Tidewater Street Dec. 7 at about 2 a.m., a York Regional Police news release said. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Suspected cannabis was observed readily available to the driver, and a search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of a firearm and quantity of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, police said.

Nicowan Sheriffe, 22, of Toronto is charged with:

    •    Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
    •    Careless Storage of a Firearm
    •    Possession of a Firearm Without a Licence
    •    Possession of a Loaded Restricted Firearm
    •    Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon
    •    Possession of a Controlled Substance – Crystal Meth
    •    Drive vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
    •    Driving While Under Suspension
