Six teenagers are charged, and six stolen vehicles have been recovered, and in connection with an armed carjacking in Markham.
Two victims had just entered their Mercedes CLA45 in a parking lot on Enterprise Boulevard when they were blocked from behind by suspects in a white Hyundai Elantra on July 13 at 1:15 a.m., according to a York Regional Police news release.
Two male suspects approached them, one armed with a handgun and the other indicating he was armed. They demanded the victims’ vehicle, phones and wallets. Both suspects got into the Mercedes and drove it away in tandem with the white Elantra, which had other suspects in it. The victims were not physically harmed.
Through investigation, multiple suspects were identified. On July 27, officers from York Regional Police, Peel Regional Police and Toronto Police Service executed search warrants at the suspects’ residences Toronto.
Six stolen vehicles were recovered, including the white Hyundai Elantra that had been stolen during a home invasion robbery in Peel Region earlier that month. A loaded Glock handgun was found in the bedroom of a 17-year-old suspect, police said.
Joemar Derby, 18, of Toronto, is charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was on a firearms prohibition at the time of these offences, police said.
Akinbowale Monday, 18, of Toronto, is charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and fail to comply with judicial release order. He was already on bail for unrelated charges at the time of these offences, police said.
Yahye Mahamed, 18, of Toronto, is charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was already on bail for unrelated charges at the time of these offences, police said.
A male youth, 17, of Toronto, is charged with possession of a loaded restricted/prohibited weapon and two counts of fail to comply with judicial release order. He was already on bail for unrelated charges, with an order not to possess weapons, at the time of these offences, police said.
