Provincial Carjacking Task Force investigators have charged three suspects and recovered a stolen vehicle following a carjacking Richmond Hill Saturday.
On Nov. 4 at approximately 1 a.m., a carjacking occurred at a residence near Weldrick Road East and Strathearn Avenue.
Two suspects confronted the victim as he drove into the garage of his home, while a third suspect waited in a vehicle.
The suspects demanded the victim’s cellphone and keys to his BMW X6 while threatening him with a knife. The suspects then left the area in both vehicles at a high rate of speed.
On Nov. 5, the suspects were observed operating the stolen BMW X6 in tandem with a Tesla.
With the assistance of the Emergency Response Unit, the driver of the Tesla was arrested and found to be in possession of a quantity of cash and multiple car keys, including a key fob for the stolen BMW X6, police said.

At the time of his arrest, Wahidullah was wearing an ankle bracelet and was on a release order for similar offences, police said.
Wahidullah was also on probation for previous, unrelated charges. Hakimi was in possession of narcotics and a replica firearm was located in the vehicle he was operating, police said.
As a result of the rising incidents of violence related to auto crimes across the Greater Toronto Area, local police services have combined resources and established a Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF) to further co-ordinate law enforcement efforts in combating these crimes.
This collaborative approach aims to disrupt the networks responsible for violent and high-risk auto thefts and maximize enforcement efforts against criminal organizations.
Co-led by the Toronto Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police, the task force is a collaboration between police services from across the GTA, including York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police Service, Durham Regional Police Service, Peel Regional Police, and other external agencies, including Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario.
