Two Richmond Hill residents and a Norwood man are facing multiple charges following a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation by Peterborough/Northumberland OPP.
On Aug. 15, one suspect was arrested after a search warrant was executed in Norwood by several OPP units, with assistance from RCMP and Canada Border Service Agency. Two suspects were arrested after a second search warrant was executed at in Richmond Hill as part of the same investigation, according to an OPP news release.
The following items were seized, according to police:
- 11 kilograms of ketamine
- 25 grams of ketamine
- approximately 5,000 methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) pills, commonly known as ecstasy
- 9mm Glock handgun with an extended capacity magazine,
- 98 - 9mm rounds of ammunition
- seven cellphones
- five digital scales
- two laptops and one tablet
Jonathan Drain, 39, of Norwood was arrested Aug. 15 and charged with:
- importation of a Schedule 1 Substance - ketamine
- conspiracy to trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance
- possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance
- unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm
- possession of a prohibited device (extended mag)
- careless storage of a firearm
- possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
The accused was held in custody and appeared for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
Biao Chen, 32, of Richmond Hill was arrested and charged with:
- importation of a Schedule 1 Substance - ketamine
- conspiracy to trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance
- possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance
- possession for the Purpose of trafficking a Schedule 3 Substance
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Sept. 17, 2024.
Sha Sha, 36, of Richmond Hill was arrested and charged with:
- importation of a Schedule 1 Substance - ketamine
- conspiracy to trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance
- possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance
- possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule 3 Substance
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Sept. 17, 2024.
