Man in custody after woman fatally stabbed in Brampton, Ont.

BRAMPTON, Ont. — Police say a man has been taken into custody after a woman was fatally stabbed in Brampton, Ont.

Peel regional police say officers were called to an apartment building in the area of Kennedy Road South and Glidden Road just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

They say officers arrived at the scene and found a woman in her 40s who had been stabbed.

Police say the woman was taken to hospital by paramedics and was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Investigators say a suspect was found a short distance from the building, and he and the victim knew each other.

They say a child was in the unit at the time of the incident and was the one to contact police.

In an emailed statement, police said they do not believe there are any outstanding suspects.
