27-Mar-1970 - 15-Dec-2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Janice Wilson (Emmerson), aged 54, on December 15, 2024 at Margaret Bahen Hospice surrounded by her loving family.
At her side throughout this journey was her husband of twenty-six years, Mike and her devoted children Ella and Sean.
Janice was diagnosed with a gliolblastoma in 2023 and fought a valiant battle with the help of the good people at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Odette Cancer Centre.
Janice is the middle of three sisters, Catherine Greene (Barrie) and Andrea Emmerson (Innisfil). She is predeceased by her parents Beth (2023) and Bill (2021) Emmerson of Elliot Lake and Mother-In-Law Dianne Wilson (2023) of North Bay.
She will be greatly missed by her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and In-Laws as well as the countless good friends and neighbours who were such an important part of her life. Janice rarely missed a birthday or anniversary and was always available for a chat. She could be counted on to go out of her way to help friends and family who needed a friendly smile or familiar voice. Thank you to everyone for all of the support. It means so much.
A big thank you goes out to the Respiratory Therapy Department at Southlake Regional Health Centre for their constant support and copious amounts of food. There aren’t enough words to express our gratitude for everything you have done for us along this journey. If you are ever in doubt, channel your inner Janice and she will have your back.
Janice started her career as a Respiratory Therapist at Toronto General Hospital establishing herself as a respected and dedicated therapist. She spent the last twenty-four years working at Southlake bringing her skills and outgoing personality to their department. During her career she has worked through all manner of outbreak, epidemic and pandemic bringing care and comfort to all of her patients. Her smile brightened the day of those she worked with.
An avid crafter, Janice spent her free time knitting, cross-stitching or whatever caught her eye on Pintrest. And she could be counted on to give it away to friends and family. She loved being outside biking, gardening or strolling with friends for a good chat.
The brightest spot in Janice’s life is her family. Best friend and loving wife to Mike, she was co-pilot and navigator on too many road trips to count. Words fail to describe how much her love and companionship will be missed.
Janice was a rock solid supporter of everything Ella and Sean did. She loved following their accomplishments whether it be in school, on the soccer field or rink. Janice could be counted on to be cheering proudly in whatever they endeavoured to do. She could not be more proud of them, the people they are, what they have achieved and the places they will go.
Janice’s friendly smile and bright personality could light up any room. Janice truly enjoyed people. Everyone was a source of interest to her. A friend remarked that when Mike was introduced to his wife, in short time they were fast friends. He simply attributed it to ‘Janice being Janice.’ We could not agree more.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Dr, Newmarket on Friday December 20th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday December 21st from 1:00-6:00 p.m.
