July 16, 1956 - January 19, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Wheeler on January 19, 2024. Born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, on July 16, 1956, Stephen was a beloved son, brother, husband, father and uncle.
Stephen was a cherished son of Lilian Violet Wheeler (1931 – 1993) and Peter Frederick Wheeler (1931 – 2002). His parents, who preceded him in death, left a legacy of love and family values that Stephen carried with him throughout his life.
He was a devoted brother to Martyn Wheeler, who survives him along his wife Allison. Stephen was a husband to Sally, father to son Taylor, and uncle to his niece Hayley (Patrick) and nephew MacKenzie. Family meant a lot to Stephen, and he leaves behind a legacy of laughter, and cherished memories.
In 1978, Stephen made a life-changing decision to move from his native England to Canada, seeking new opportunities and adventures, first arriving in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1983, he would be joined by Peter, Lilian and Martyn in Edmonton. Eventually they would all make their way to Ontario, where they would establish a permanent home. The move was a testament to Stephen's adventurous spirit and his willingness to try something new.
In addition to his authentic and reserved nature, Stephen was known for his exceptional craftsmanship, a skill that became a true passion throughout his life. With a love for woodworking that manifested in every piece he created, Stephen's hands brought forth intricate and beautiful creations that reflected his dedication to his craft. His woodworking was not merely a skill but an art form, showcasing his creativity and meticulous attention to detail.
Stephen's legacy extends beyond the tangible works of his hands; it encompasses the warmth of his smile, and the creative spirit that fueled his craftsmanship. His memory will forever live on in the masterpieces he crafted and the stories he shared through his love of woodworking.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Roadhouse and Rose funeral home. A celebration of life will be held in Spring 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Margaret Bahen Hospice in Stephen's honor.
May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who mourn his passing.
