June 13th, 1934 - August 14th, 2024
Cornelius (Carl) Vanderkolff passed away as a result of complications from pneumonia at Newmarket Health Centre on Wednesday August 14th in his 91st year.
Loving husband of Johanna Wilhelmina Vanderkolff (nee Vanalebeek) for 67 years.
Beloved father of Cornelius Robert (Linda), Kenneth John (Judith), Christopher James (Jennifer) Karen Frances (Jeff) and Mark John.
Last of his five brothers (Bill, Anthony, John, Peter) to pass.
Proud Grandfather of Eric (Rhonda), Andrew (Amanda), Mike (Kryslyn), Melissa (Brodie), Jessica (Dan), Caitlin, Devon (Jesse), Tristan, and Marli.
Proud great-Grandfather of Doug, Dean, Brody, Roxten, Wesley, Waylen, Carson, Clarke, Hailey, and Victor.
Born in Amsterdam on June 13, 1934, and immigrated to Canada in April 1952. Carl met Johanna in Bradford and the two settled in Newmarket and began to build a fantastic life for their family.
With the work ethic instilled by his parents he found himself in possession of the talents required to handle most any task given him. The pride in being able to provide for his family is continuously evident in the generational success of those that carry the Vanderkolff name. He believed whatever the challenge, there was a path to overcome it and planning, hard work, and determination would lead to success. Following numerous years of whatever was necessary to support this family of five children the bulk of his career was spent as a Purchasing Agent for Rowntree Mackintosh Companies (NESTLE).
Knowing the struggles of life in a new country with little knowledge of the language he was always willing to help others. There are many outside his immediate family that know of his benevolent nature. Be it donating time to community groups or supporting neighbourhood causes his good nature and congenial personality won him many friends and business connections.
A fervent fan of the beautiful game of soccer he also found a love of the Canadian game of hockey and could be found raising his hand when coaching or training personnel were required for his children’s teams in either discipline. The value of friendships he built led to many opportunities for the family he was so proud of showing off. The belief that if others spoke well of his children it was a blessing he could carry with immeasurable pride.
At the request of Carl and Anne a small private service will take place at a later date.
Special thanks to those at Newmarket Health Centre for the support and caring provided.
