23-May-1934 - 05-Dec-2022

Passed away peacefully December 5th, 2022, surrounded by family, blanketed in love. Marg was born May 23rd, 1934, in Markdale, Ontario to Jack and Margaret. The oldest of three, (siblings Doreen and John), the family moved to Toronto where she and her sister Doreen attended Saint Josephs’ Convent School. After graduation, Marg was hired on at Bell Canada. It was during this time she met the love of her life, Frank Swain. They married in October of 1958 and settled in an apartment before buying their first home in Scarborough. Their first child Darrell, arrived in 1960, Duncan in 1962, Tina in 1963, and Derek in 1964. Leaving their second home in Scarborough they moved north to Mount Albert in 1968 to raise their young family in a rural community.

Enrolling the children in activities got Marg started in a long road of selfless volunteer work with the Scouts, Girl Guides, The Park Board, Mount Albert Sports Day committee, and a long-standing volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society. She was named East Gwillimbury’s “Citizen of the Year” in 1994. Her family and friends nominated her as the unofficial” Mayor of Mount Albert”. Margaret was able to achieve all of this while raising her family and getting them to all their activities: baseball, soccer, high school football and three boys playing rep hockey. A LOT of miles, hours, and personal sacrifice.
Once her family was grown, Marg joined Frank full time in the prosperous wholesale business they had built in an administrative and H.R. capacity.

A devout Catholic, Marg is survived by her sister Doreen, sister-in-law Marie, husband of 64 years, Frank, 4 children, daughter- in-laws Susie, Beth and Megan, son in-law Jim, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Services will be held in Newmarket, Ontario, with visitation at the Taylor Funeral Home on Thursday December 8th, 5 to 8pm, and the funeral at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, Friday December 9th at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Margaret’s charity of choice, The Canadian Cancer Society.
