January 14th, 1934 - August 6th, 2024
Luigi Stornelli passed away peacefully in hospital on August 6, 2024 at 12:45 p.m. He was 90 years old.
Luigi immigrated to Canada from Celano, L’Aquila, Italy in 1953. He began training as a tailor at 9 years old in Celano and brought that skill with him. Luigi opened his first shop on Stavebank Road in Port Credit in the early 1960s, and eventually moved his business to Lakeshore Road where it was a fixture for over 60 years.
Luigi loved tailoring. His shop was a place where customers were also friends. Many would stay for a cup of coffee or a slice of pizza over lunchtime.
Luigi loved good food and a good glass of wine with friends. He was a true gentleman who adored his family and was rarely seen without his trademark custom suit. He often wore it while gardening after work.
He was a generous, gentle man who will be missed every day by his wife Ivy, daughter Laura and son in law Frank, as well as his grandchildren David, Luke, and Lucy. Luigi’s family thank the doctors and nurses in the ICU and Stroke Unit at Hamilton General Hospital.
Visitation will take place at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home (157 Main Street South, Newmarket) on Sunday, August 11th from 1-5 PM. Funeral service will take place at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home (157 Main Street South, Newmarket) on Monday, August 12th at 11 AM with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend.
