July 15th, 1930 - June 15th, 2024

Passed away at Southlake Residential Care Village in Newmarket, Ontario, her home for the past 7 years. Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William (Bill) Smith, her parents Harold and Gladys (Smart) Moore, her brothers Harold (Flo) Smart and Frank (Betty) Moore, her sisters Marie (Ralph) Truckel, Jacqueline (John) Gardiner, and Arlene (Gerry) Chapman, her father-in-law William (Bill) and mother-in-law Dorothy Smith, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ethel and William (Bill) Everest, and brother-in-law Bruce Smith.

She is survived by her sons Randy (Ellen) Smith of Dublin, Ohio and Tim (Karen) Smith of Calgary, Alberta; by her grandchildren Sarah (Joe) Zarick and Paul (Kerry) Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Laura (Josh) Lane and Allison Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, and by great grandchildren Andrew, Michael and Samantha Zarick, Peyton and Avery Smith, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Ethan Lane of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a caring aunt to 28 nieces and nephews.

Eva was a devoted, loving wife and mother, supportive daughter and sister, wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother, and loyal friend. She attended Alexander Muir Public School and Newmarket High School and spent her entire 93 years of life in Newmarket, gaining many friends and acquaintances. She liked to read, travel, play cards, cook/bake and to knit. She enjoyed working with her colleagues at Tip Top Plastics in Newmarket in the 1960s. She loved spending time supporting her large extended family, at both full family gatherings, but especially at small group or one-to-one conversations over tea. She had a quiet, calm demeanor, a presence, and was an effective listener and mentor. She led by example. Many benefitted.

The Smith family expresses its gratitude to the staff of Four West at Southlake Village for the care provided - it was a comfort to the family knowing she was there - and to the staff of Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, in Newmarket, for the professionalism in making final arrangements. Cremation has occurred. Eva will rest with Bill in the columbarium at Newmarket Cemetery.
