It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Pauline Mitchell (nee Chaffey) who passed at home in Bradford while surrounded by family on December 8, 2024, in her 97th year.

Betty was a loving wife to the late William Mitchell and life partner to the late Stuart Andrews. She was a devoted mother to her three children: the late Paul Mitchell (Lynne Mitchell), Pauline Dunn (Keith Dunn) and Deb Mitchell. She was a grandmother to seven grandchildren: Paul Mitchell (Iris Parker Lane), Darlene Mitchell, Jennifer Mitchell, Jason Vanderkleyn, James Vanderkleyn, Sean Huggins (Angela Marino) and Elizabeth Vanderkleyn, great-grandchildren: Andrew Mitchell (Karina Garcia), Amber Mitchell (Paul Hatchey), Shane Bennett-Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell (Nicole Mitchell), Alexis Mitchell (Maria Petkos), Brittany Grunzweig (Michael Grunzweig), Kayla Mayne, and Donnovan Mayne, great great children: Layna Mitchell, Marissa Mayne and Ariel Mitchell-Garcia. Betty is predeceased by her brother, Frank Chaffey and sister Vera Chaffey. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Chaffey of the Isle of Wight and late Margaret Chaffey of Surrey, England.

Betty was a woman of remarkable strength and touched the lives of many. She came to Canada as a war bride in 1945 and dedicated over 45 years to various volunteer pursuits. She cared deeply for her friends and family and brought joy to all who knew her.

Friends and family may attend at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, in Newmarket on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024 for a visitation between 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. A further visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024 at 11 – 12 p.m., with funeral service to follow in the chapel at 12 p.m. A reception will follow upstairs from 1:00 – 2:30. Interment to take place at Thornhill Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
