March 24th, 1958 - November 8th, 2022

She lived fiercely; she died softly. The family of Carolyn Miland sadly announces her passing on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 into the hands of God after a serious fall and resulting head injury at the start of September. Carolyn died surrounded by love with her family, including mother Marie, and close friends Kathy & MC.

This special daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was born in Toronto to Tom & Marie Miland, recently immigrated from Ireland. The family soon moved to Aurora and later King City where Carolyn spent her childhood and youth organizing her three siblings, Michael (who we sadly lost in February; Linda), Beatrice Ann (Kevin), and Bryan, sewing her own clothes, working multiple jobs, and as the Aurora High Student Council President. Carolyn then went on to Carleton University to attain both her B.A. and B.Ed., later completing her Masters of Library Science. After a decade of teaching across southern Ontario Carolyn settled back in York Region where she taught and was a keen librarian for elementary students until retiring in 2018. Her ongoing commitment to volunteering and service also led her to become the York Region OECTA rep, a long-standing board member/contributor to the Newmarket Optimist Club, a competitive euchre player, and an award-winning stage manager for Theatre Aurora.

Carolyn was so proud to become an aunt to Maeve and Roisin, and hoped that her symbol of living a strong, independent life would carry on with them. She also became a well-loved adopted aunt/godmother to many of her friends' children, special KK to MacIsaac and Lucinda, and a fellow warrior to her friends at Oak Ridges dialysis. Carolyn was kind and compassionate to many people in her world, caring when you were down and full of fun when you were up. She was known for her intelligence, her loyalty, and her logical approach to life. She was a special friend and colleague to many and will surely be missed and remembered. She lived fiercely; she died softly.

Family and friends will be received at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home 157 Main Street S. Newmarket, on Sunday November 13 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday November 14 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15347 Yonge St., Aurora. Burial will follow at noon at King City Cemetery, 2580 King Road, King City followed by a Celebration of Life at the Hogan’s Inn 12998 Keele St. King City. If desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Newmarket Optimist Club or the Rose of Sharon in lieu of flowers.
