August 10th, 1954 - December 2nd, 2024

Passed away peacefully at home in Newmarket, Ontario on Monday, December 2nd, 2024 at 70 years of age. Loving husband of Lisa Ann Kelly for 45 years. Beloved father of Nicole Marie Kelly-Tonelli (Mike) and Matthew David Kelly. Proud grandfather of Colton, Noah, Everly, and Ellie Tonelli. Son of the late Isabella and Gerard Kelly. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

David grew up in Scarborough and as a youth developed a strong passion for hockey, playing as often as possible. His strong skills in this sport led him to full hockey scholarship at Michigan State University where he played for four years and was Captain and nominated for the Outstanding Senior Award. He graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Engineering. He married Lisa in 1979, whom he met at MSU and they bought their first home in Toronto. In the same year, he was invited to the Toronto Maple Leaf Camp and was offered a contract offer with the East Coast League (Hampton, Virginia). David, however, decided to pursue his ambitions to be a leader in sales and marketing and represented key account management with several large pharmaceutical and packaging companies in the Toronto area. With 20 years of experience, he went on to become the Director of Sales for Accelerate Healthcare Inc. At the same time, he continued to further his education by completing the Executive MBA degree.

David loved travelling and experiencing many different things – whether it was camping, an adventure theme park or just relaxing at the beach or on a cruise. He was a hockey coach in the MTHL for several years and enjoyed golf, guitar, Tae Kwon Do, reading, physical fitness and spending time with his family. Throughout the years, he continued to enjoy his hockey, as an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and as a team member with his friends on the “Gray Blades”. He also enjoyed his time skating with the NHL Oldtimers as well as assisting with fundraising events, such as Hockey Helps the Homeless.

Visitation will take place at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home (157 Main Street South, Newmarket) on Thursday, December 12th, 2024 from 10 AM – 12 PM. A funeral service will commence in the chapel at 12 PM. Guests are invited to a reception following the service. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
