October 19, 1940 to January 12, 2024

William Douglas Gairdner took his last breath on January 12, 2024, bringing a conclusion to his epic tale on earth. Born amidst WWII conditions on October 19,1940 in Oakville, ON to James and Ruthann Gairdner. He married Jean Donalda Sparling in Vancouver, on September 15, 1979. True to his way, it was in a romantic fashion, as they were lowered in a decorative chair onto a waiting yacht to be sailed off for the rest of their lives together.

The accomplishments of William are of the quality and quantity that anyone would consider theirs a well-lived life if they had only achieved a fraction of them. He was a man that engaged life with such vigor, respect, and moral certitude that even a single moment with him could change your trajectory.

William is survived by his wife, Jean, his daughters, Christine Sylvie Ann Gairdner, Emilie Ruth Madeleine Gairdner, Ruthann Constance Attia (Gairdner) (Paul), and his sons, William Harland Gairdner (Sarah) and Franklin Tennant Gairdner (Nicole). True to his passion for life, he is survived by 16 grandchildren who miss him deeply. They will continue to be guided by the strength and lessons imparted to his children, and so unto them.

The celebration of life will be hosted at The Manor, Alexander Hall, 16750 Weston Rd, King City, Ontario on January 20, 2024 from 2-5pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital ICU or St Michael’s Cardiology Department.
