It is with great sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Robert Ernest Fell (Bob as he preferred to be called) at Southlake Hospital, on September 5, 2023, embraced by the love of his family. A much loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and a father like figure and friend to many.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 74 years Ruby Bernice Fell, his daughters Vickie Wright (predeceased), Debbie Taka of Mitchell, Cindy (John) Gibbs of Aurora, Terry (Ken) Collings of Bayfield, and his sister Joanne Vautier.

He was the best Poppa to his 6 grandchildren – Jennifer (Gary Borges) of Caledon, Lyndsay (Matt Shaw) of London, Julie (Damien) Taka of Spenser Massachusetts, Suzie (Sarah) Taka of Waterloo, Dave (Meghan) Gibbs of Holland Landing, Chris (Heidi) Gibbs of Sutton, and special grand dog Rebecca. He was also blessed with having 12 great grandchildren – Emma, Evan, Mason, Delaney, Ellie, Aiden, Avi, Morley, Ezra, Nolan, Austin and newborn Sarah.

Bob was born on June 15, 1930 in Toronto, to Ernest George and Rowena May Fell of Toronto, but was later raised by his “Aunt Flo” after the early death of his mother. He became the man of the house at a very young age. He was resilient and determined to make a better life for himself, his wife, his family and everyone he met along the way. He was very proud of his career in the printing industry as a head pressman and later union negotiator. In his career he worked for a printing company that published the coveted Sears Christmas Wish Book, and part time for the Toronto Star (which he was an avid reader of).

Bob was a Jack-of-all-Trades and enjoyed tinkering or building furniture in his basement workshop. He was always lending a hand to neighbours, family and anyone that needed his help.. He and Ruby loved to garden, even winning a gardening award at their Florida retirement home. Golfing was one of his favourite pastimes in Florida and at their home in Wasaga Beach, and how his grandchildren loved their fun times driving in the golf cart with him.

Bob loved being with people and it showed as he and Mom generously hosted many large fun filled parties and events for family and friends at their pool in Willowdale, and at their homes in Florida and Wasaga Beach. He loved travelling and meeting new friends, many that became their lifetime friends.

His passing has left a huge void in the hearts and lives of family and old friends (and new ones at the Roxborough Retirement Residence).

We wish to thank the staff at Southlake Hospital for their care of Dad through the years, as well as the Roxborough staff for 7 enjoyable years, and to our families and friends for their love and support.

Family and friends are invited to share memories of Bob at the Taylor Funeral Home 524 Davis Drive, Newmarket Ontario L3Y 2P3 (905-898-2100) Monday September 11, 2023 at 1 pm.  If desired please make a donation to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
