It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of June Rose Epema, age 94, who peacefully departed this life in her sleep on September 15, 2024. Born on March 24, 1930, in Toronto, June lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and her unwavering faith.

June was predeceased by her daughter, Lynne (Doug), and is survived by her beloved daughter, Betty (Don), as well as “Nana” to her grandchildren: April (Nathan), Christine, Nick, Luke (Jennifer), and Alishia (Otis), and as a beloved great-grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy, and she dedicated herself to creating beautiful memories with them. Growing up in Toronto to parents Louisa (née Smith) and Christopher Flitney, June cherished her family's roots in Buckinghamshire, England.

Some of her happiest moments were spent at the family cottage in Bracebridge, where laughter and love were always in abundance. June had a zest for life, enjoying the many community events in Newmarket; music in the park, monthly spaghetti dinner, and indulging in her favourite restaurant, the Mandarin.

Known for her quirky sense of humour, she delighted in wearing Christmas sweaters, whimsical holiday hats and various pins (some even had lights!). It wasn’t Christmas without Christmas crackers, paper hats, eggnog and her famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. A woman of many talents, June loved knitting, word searches, puzzles, reading the Bible, and watching old movies. She loved singing and often you would find her humming a tune in her kitchen. June was always walking along Main Street and a regular at the Farmers Market.

She was an integral part of her community at Timothy Street for 30 years, where she organized bingo, movie nights, line dancing, and euchre —ensuring there was always something fun on the calendar. Her generosity knew no bounds, she donated to numerous charities, always eager to lend a helping hand and share a smile.

June will be remembered for her warm heart, infectious spirit, and the joy she brought to those who knew her. Her love for a party and a good cup of tea with honey, will be missed. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, joy and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her and live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

We would like to thank all the staff at Age Care Aurora for the amazing care they gave to June in her last couple years. She truly enjoyed your programs and events. A special thanks to Alexa Peters, you were an angel to us and could not have done it without you. Thank you to Anne and Kevin at Robin’s Pharmacy for your unwavering care and compassion.

A celebration of June’s life will be at Taylor Funeral Home (524 Davis Dr. Newmarket) on Saturday September 28th at 11am with a luncheon to follow. We encourage wearing fun bright colours in memory of June (her favourite colour was pink).

Flowers can be sent to Taylor Funeral Home or donations may be made to the Yonge Street Mission.

Rest in peace, dear June, Mom, and Nana. God heard your prayers and the Lord has taken you home. You have touched so many lives and will be dearly missed.
