A Life of Hard Work, Perseverance, and Love
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ramnarain (Ram) Budhu on Friday March 7, 2025, at the age of 94. He died peacefully at the Margaret Bahen Hospice, Newmarket surrounded by family. Ram’s life was one of dedication, resilience, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and community. His impact will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born to Budhoo, Temal (father) and Bhagmania (mother) in Berbice, Guyana, Ram is now reunited with his beloved parents, brothers Chim and Harrylal, and sister Anjanie in eternal peace. Ram’s heart always remained in the land of his birth, where he grew up and created lifelong memories. His roots in Berbice shaped him into the man he became. A person of deep family values, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his heritage.
Ram was married to his beloved wife, Eileen Narainee (nee Bholanauth) Budhu, with whom he shared 72 years of partnership, support, and love. Together, they built a beautiful life full of memories. He was a proud and devoted father to Nalini (Patricia), Deo (Peter), Nirvani, and Kamini. His greatest joy came from seeing his grandchildren flourish into the remarkable individuals they are today: Karen, Adrian, Vanessa, Melissa, Justin, Christopher, Stephanie, Mark, and Pierce. Ram was also a doting great-grandfather, fondly cherishing his four great-grandchildren: Matthew, Isla, Mia, and Anayah.
Ram’s pursuit of education took him far from home, first to the United Kingdom, where he attended RRC, and then to Centennial College in Toronto, Canada. His dedication to his professional growth led him to become a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and he earned the designation of Associates of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administration (A.C.I.S.).
Ram’s career began in Guyana, where he worked as the Accountant Manager of the Sugar Industry Welfare Fund during the Burnham administration. His role in the management of the Sugar Welfare Fund exemplified his commitment to social responsibility and his expertise in financial management. In 1978, seeking a better future for his family, Ram immigrated to Canada, where he continued his education and further developed his career. In Canada, Ram found fulfillment in the accounting industry, where he worked with integrity and dedication until his retirement. Throughout his life, he was a strong advocate for education, business ethics, and maintaining high standards in all endeavours.
At his core, Ram was a humble man, he was trustworthy and always present for his loved ones. Whether in moments of joy or sorrow, Ram led with his heart. His love for life never wavered, and even in his final years, when dementia affected his memory, he continued to embrace life’s blessings. He was happiest surrounded by his family, enjoying visits, discussing politics, and most of all, dancing with his wife Eileen.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Deo (Peter) Ramnarain (Son), Karen Sulaman (Granddaughter), and family physician Dr. Jang, for caring for Ram over the past year, and the staff at Margaret Bahen Hospice for their compassionate care during Ram’s final days.
