February 19th, 1941 - July 20th, 2024
Paul Martin Blair of Windsor, Ontario, passed away at home on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the age of 83.
Paul was born on February 19, 1941, in Newmarket, Ontario. He earned bachelors and masters degrees in engineering from the University of Toronto in 1963 and McGill University in 1968. Paul married his college sweetheart, Suzanne Smith (who passed away in 2021), and the couple moved to Quebec, where they had two children: David (Sarasota, FL) and Pamela (Whistler, BC). He was predeceased by his loving parents, Homer (1981) and Doris Blair (2005).
A brilliant mining engineer, Paul’s career took him across Quebec, Hamilton, Windsor, and Mentor, Ohio. Later in life, he met his loving partner, Becky Rundle, with whom he enjoyed travelling and attending sporting events, concerts, and live theater. Two of Paul’s greatest treasures were his pets: Finnegan the cat and Miss Molly the Westie, who were his loyal companions and joined him in cheering on the Detroit Lions and the University of Michigan football team.
Paul is survived by his best friend and loving partner, Becky Rundle; his children, David Blair and Pamela Deane (whose husband Wayne passed away in 2023); and his adored grandchildren: Alex Blair (Lindsey), Victoria Blair (Brandt), Chantal Deane, Cassidy Deane, and JJ Deane.
Paul’s family wishes to thank his outstanding medical team, whose professionalism allowed him to fulfill his wish of staying at home: Dr. A. Rajan; Annie & Helen; Dr. S. Chao; Donna; Dr. Carghill and his palliative care team; Arron with Windsor Essex Hospice Social Work; Ben, Brian, and Megan of Pro-Resp; Brianna of St. Elizabeth Healthcare; and Cassandra of Motions, Inc.
The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to his friends and neighbours who supported him and Becky throughout his difficult battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: Hannah & Eugene, Mike, Donna, Jaimie & Kevin, and Dave.
A private service will be held on August 7, 2024, at Queensville Cemetery, arrangements entrusted to Roadhouse & Rose funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Windsor-Essex Hospice or the Ontario Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Organization.
