Raised in Eglington Road, Swanscombe, Kent, UK, of adopting parents Ena Ann Bishop, nee Manship and Alfred Charles Bishop. Alan, (birth name Karl Adrian Blondell), attended North Fleet Technical School, Swanscombe, and also lived in Dartford and Thames View, UK. Emigrating to Canada in 2004 living in Keswick, Ontario. Alan passed peacefully at Southlake Hospital, Newmarket having fought long and hard against psoriasis arthritis and latterly of non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver in the last 6 years.
Alan leaves behind his loving family; wife of 31 years Angela Bishop (nee Clayton), and family from prior marriage, daughters Kerry and Tracy and sons Luke and Kieran and their partners Anthony, Page and Amy; grand children Brandon Lee (and spouse Mia), and Ellie, Anthony, Layla, Ruby, Esmae and great grandson Cohen. Alan is also survived by his cousins in the UK and 17 younger half siblings and their families in California and Kansas, USA, from his birth parent’s separate families.
Originally qualifying as a paper maker, later joining the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and became a paratroop in the British army, where he gained a degree in mechanical engineering. Emigrating to Canada in 2004, working on heavy equipment engineering in the Toronto area and was respected for his technical knowledge.
Alan was a man who loved life, loved people irrespective of who they were, and loved animals and lived a very full life, with many adventures. A biker in his younger days and accomplished at taekwondo, he enjoyed music although less accomplished at playing his guitars. Alan enjoyed early heavy metal, ska, blues, and reggae music with classical and opera thrown in for good measure. Alan loved engineering, fishing, reading and history. Alan was strong both physically and mentally, intelligent, patient, kind, and honorable, he had a quick whit and strong sense of humor and was protective and loving of his family and his many friends from the UK and Canada.
Rest in peace, you were a true original and will be greatly missed by the many who had the good fortune to know you.
The family will receive all those wishing to Celebrate Alan’s Life at the Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive, Newmarket 647-955-8057 at 10:00 a.m. Saturday 15 March.
