Bilof, Marie Florence (nee Gillis) passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Center, Newmarket, on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the age of 80 years, surrounded by love. Loving wife of the late Harry Bilof (deceased 2023). Beloved mother of David (Lisa). Loving grandmother of seven precious grandchildren: Rebekah, Samuel, Joseph, Gabriel, Sarah, Hannah, and Abigail. Dear sister of the late Gerald (Pauline), the late Duncan (Letricia), Winston (Debbie), Sheila (Jim), Neil, Florence, Michael (Mely), the late Chris (the late Rosalie, Branka), and Roy. Beloved daughter of the late Duncan and the late Olive (MacPherson) Gillis. Loving aunt, cousin and friend of many.

Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton Island, Marie graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University with a BA/B Ed. and enjoyed her teaching career in Mabou, Cape Breton Island, Madonna High School Toronto, and Guidance and Chaplaincy positions in several high schools with the Dufferin Peel Catholic School Board. After retirement, she also served voluntarily as Principal of the Heralds of the Gospel Private School. Her students will remember Marie for her spirit of love, compassion and deep faith.

Marie’s Catholic faith came first, followed by her love for her family. She always enjoyed gathering family for a holiday dinner feast, which she delighted in preparing. She also enjoyed sports, especially hockey and baseball. She often coached the sports from her arm chair and loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Marie will be deeply missed by many whose lives she touched.

Special thanks to the caring doctors, nurses, and staff at Southlake Hospital.

Visitation will be held at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home (157 Main St. South, Newmarket), on Thursday, September 5th from 6-9pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Mission Catholic Church (190 Mactaggart Dr, Nobleton) on Friday, September 6, at 10am. Reception to follow after the funeral mass and internment following at Assumption Catholic Cemetery (6933 Tomken Rd, Mississauga).
