It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Velda Lillian Aitchison on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at her residence in Newmarket surrounded by her loving family at the age of 94 years. Beloved wife of the late Gordon Clifford Aitchison. Loving mother to Cheryl (Steve), and the late Ralph (Gail). Cherished grandmother to Sara (Jo), Ryan (Tarin), Bradley, Maegan, and Kelsie. Dear Great-grandmother to Jeremey, Madyson, Mickayla, Calo, Griffyn, Elena, Jamieson, Brooklynn, Juliet, Kinsley, Wesley, Colton, and Liberty. Velda will be lovingly remembered by her siblings; Lois (the late Ted), the late Roy (Ellen), the late Lillian (the late Ken), and Bill (the late Rose).
Velda had a love of life and was very active. She loved to travel with friends and visited many countries, Barbados and snowmobiling in Switzerland being two of her favourite vacations.
When at home she enjoyed socializing with friends and swimming. Velda competed in the Ontario Senior Games winning a silver medal. Cottaging in Honey Harbour and then Port Severn always made her happy. She would relax up there even though she was always busy doing something. Velda was a strong, brave and loving woman known for her infectious smile and positive outlook on life.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive Newmarket, 647-578-9215.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation’s in Velda’s name can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or to Lily’s Place Animal Sanctuary in New Brunswick named after her late sister.
