Lady Linnea McCarthy is a dedicated volunteer who devotes much of her time to making Hamilton Place a warm, welcoming and safe home for the seniors who live there.
Lady started the Seniors Taking Extra Precautions (STEP) program 10 years ago at the Newmarket apartment complex, where residents hang a sign on their door to let her know they are OK each evening and take it down each morning.
Her nominator, Mary Ellis, says Lady takes it upon herself each day to walk through the building and ensure each person is safe. If someone’s sign isn’t there in the evening, she will knock on the door or phone to make sure the tenant is OK.
She also spends her evenings and weekends on call for whatever residents need help with.
These are just some of the caring things that Lady does for the seniors at Hamilton Place and it's why NewmarketToday was thrilled to surprise her with a special gift in recognition of all the time she spends volunteering.
Our team delivered gift cards to Lady for both a spa and a garden centre (a favourite hobby of hers) to show our appreciation for her kindness.
“I didn’t expect the surprise at all,” Lady told NewmarketToday. “I do what I do because I like helping people, it makes me feel good. I don’t do it to be recognized but it does feel great to be recognized.”
Thank you to our generous sponsor, Dawson Manor Spa, for making this Random Act of Kindness possible.
