The York United FC, the local professional football club, is encouraging fans to support the food bank and get a free ticket to their next match in the process.
If you make a monetary donation of $25 to the Food Bank of York Region (FBYR) before 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, you will receive a complimentary ticket to the soccer match on Saturday, Nov. 6.
They will be taking on local rivals Forge FC in a home game at the York Lions Stadium, which is located in York University at 4700 Keele St., North York.
The football club will also be collecting non-perishable food items and money for the food bank at the game on Saturday.
“As much as possible, our organization believes in using our platform to highlight and promote the great things being done in our communities every day,” says Angus McNab, the club’s president/CEO and GM. “The FBYR works tirelessly to help others. Now, we get to help them. Our fans are an incredible bunch and have pushed us to the brink of the playoffs this season. I know they’ll come out in force once again and do what they can to get behind such an important cause.”
Anyone who makes a donation at the FBYR booth at the game will also be gifted a ticket to the match on Nov. 9.
The team is giving food bank volunteers and staff tickets to this weekend's game as a thank you for all their hard work.
Donations to the food bank can be made online.
The game is on Saturday, Nov. 6 with kickoff at 1 p.m. and entry starting at noon.
