For the eighth year in a row, York Regional Police has been named one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 2025.

The designation recognizes employers across Canada that lead their sectors in offering exceptional workplaces and programs for young people starting their careers, according to a York Regional Police news release.

Thousands of employers in Canada were evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers based on programs and benefits tailored to young people, including training, mentorships and professional development.

“Our young members are a critically important part of our organization,” said Chief Jim MacSween. “Supporting their development is a significant priority. York Regional Police is proud to be honoured with this distinction for an eighth consecutive year.”

York Regional Police was selected based on its commitment to mentoring young members through the following initiatives:

  • A student cadet program for students attending a police-related college or university program, working up to 24 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours during the summer. Cadets work at police districts assisting with cell checks, front desk duties, monitoring statements and other administrative tasks for one year, with the potential to renew for a second.
  • A year-long onboarding program includes a civilian orientation program, providing all newly hired civilian professional members with a comprehensive and interactive overview of the organization. The program includes training, professional development, activities and the opportunity for new employees to establish short- and long-term goals with their supervisor.
  • A Youth in Policing Initiative offers students aged 15 to 18, who have experienced barriers to success in their communities, the opportunity to see what a career in policing is really like. Participants may assist with community events, administrative tasks and act as junior counsellors at the Community Safety Village of York Region in Whitchurch-Stouffville.

The annual Canada’s Top Employers for Young People competition, part of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers program, is an editorial project by Mediacorp Canada Inc., the nation’s largest publisher of employment periodicals.
