York Region teacher, Ontario hockey coach convicted for sexual offences against minor

The 40-year-old Whitchurch-Stouffville man has been convicted on two counts of sexual interference against a child under 16

A 40-year-old teacher and hockey coach from Whitchurch-Stouffville has been convicted of the sexual assault of a young boy, police say.

Kelvin Cheuk-Ho Lee was convicted on two counts of sexual interference against a child under 16 at a Superior Court of Justice Sept. 6, police said in a news release.

According to police, Lee was previously released on bail in February 2022 with conditions that include he not associate with children. He remains on the same bail conditions pending his sentencing scheduled for Nov. 25.

Lee coached hockey throughout Ontario for many years and has been a camp director with Haliburton Hockey Haven since 2016. He’s also a former teacher in the York Region District School Board, where he coached sports and was the head tennis professional at Markham Tennis Club.

Police launched an investigation into the accused after officers received information about a sexual assault victim. Through the investigation, the officers learned that a victim had been sexually assaulted while participating in private hockey lessons between 2016 and 2022, beginning when he was approximately eight years old, police say.

Investigators are re-releasing Lee's photograph as they believe there are additional victims. They are urging them and any witnesses to come forward.

York Regional Police encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence. You can make an online report. https://www.yrp.ca/en/Online-Reporting.asp.
