York Region Paramedic Services has promoted three members of its organization as commissioner Katherine Chislett retires on June 28.

Lisa Gonsalves was promoted to acting commissioner of community and health services, Chris Spearen was promoted to acting general manager of paramedic and seniors services and Jeremy Watts will serve as acting chief of York Region Paramedic Services.

“I am deeply honoured to accept the role of acting chief of York Region Paramedic Services,” said Jeremy Watts, acting chief of York Region Paramedic Services. “Having served as deputy chief, I am excited to step into this new capacity and continue to deliver exceptional programs and services to our communities.”

Gonsalves was promoted from her role as general manager, paramedic, and senior services. Spearen was previously the chief of York Region Paramedic Services and Watts moved up from his role as deputy chief of York Region Paramedic Services.

“The decision to appoint these experienced members within the leadership team ensures the region maintains our momentum and drives critical operations without interruption,” said Patrick Casey, director of corporate communications.

York Region Paramedic Service responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, is available to provide standby service for special events, and can give presentations about health and safety topics. It serves nine municipalities in York Region, divided into three districts. Watts expects the organization to continue to provide the same level of quality service to the communities it serves.

“As acting chief, my focus will be on maintaining and enhancing our service delivery,” said Watts. “I am looking forward to supporting and collaborating with our skilled, smart, and strong paramedics, support staff, and community partners.”
