York Region paramedic honoured for 30 years of service

Paramedic earns first bar at provincial awards ceremony

The provincial government has recognized a York Region paramedic for 30 years of exemplary service.

York’s Robert Farley received a medal as part of the Governor General Emergency Emergency Medical Services ceremony Nov. 20. The ceremony recognizes paramedics who have served for 30, 40 and 50 years. Associate Minister of Health Michael Tibbolo presented the awards to the paramedics.

The province presented the ward to 73 paramedics at the ceremony this year. York Region Paramedic Services chief Jeremy Watts recognized the occasion on social media.

“It was a pleasure … to watch retired York Paramedics (Robert Farley) receive the first bar on the Exemplary Service medal for over 30 years of distinguished service,” Watts said.

Farley earned his first bar for 30 years of service. The milestone reached, York Region confirmed Farley has retired from the service.

The awards at minimum require someone to have at least 10 years of service in the field on duty, involving potential risk.

“This award recognizes paramedics who have provided the highest standard of care and conduct,” the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs said in a news release, adding recipients are “long-serving, deserving paramedics.”

The medal dates back to 1994, created by late Governor General Romeo LeBlanc.
