A new paramedic response station has opened in Markham, bringing the number of stations across York Region to 27.
Located at 180 Cachet Woods Court, the station is LEED silver certified and can accommodate up to six ambulances, and will have paramedics operating 24 hours per day, seven days a week, according to a Regional Municipality of York news release.
New stations are strategically built within areas experiencing a growth in population and help York Region Paramedic Services continue to meet the needs of residents, the region stated.
Four additional stations are planned to be built over the next three years and two existing stations will receive upgrades to expand service capacity.
“York Region is expected to add more than 600,000 new residents by 2041. With the rapidly growing and aging population, like many other services and infrastructure projects, the need for paramedic services is also expected to increase,” said Vaughan Regional Councillor Gino Rosati, chair of community and health services.
“As part of the York Region Paramedic Services master plan (2021-2031), planning for this growth helps balance resources appropriately and maintain access to paramedic services across all nine York Region cities and towns.”
