York Region residents eager to receive their COVID-19 vaccine flooded the region's website today, booking more than 14,000 appointments, with about 7,000 openings remaining for seniors aged 70 and over and other eligible recipients.
This morning, York Region opened vaccination bookings to residents age 70 and older, which resulted in the highest daily user demand to date for the region's website, according to York Region director of corporate communications Patrick Casey.
About 7,000 vaccination appointments remain available to residents age 70 and older (born 1951 or earlier), highest, very high and high priority health care workers, Indigenous adults, adult recipients of chronic home care and faith leaders who live or work in York Region up until April 1.
Appointments are required, and are booked on york.ca/COVID19Vaccine.
To date, 110,669 vaccines have been administered in York Region, Casey added.
"This is great news for our residents, as York Region continues to make significant progress in vaccinating priority populations."
Today also marked the first day of vaccinations at the Aaniin Community Centre in Markham, where more than 1,000 doses were administered. Seven clinics are now open across the region.
As additional vaccine supplies are made available, York Region will extend vaccine appointments to further priority populations and open additional vaccination clinics, including the drive-thru clinic at Canada’s Wonderland scheduled to open on Monday, March 29, Casey said.
