Recipients of the exemplary service medals for 2022. Five York Region paramedics received the medals this year.

Six paramedics with York Paramedic Services have been honoured with exemplary service awards for their decades of dedication.

John Anderson, Jennifer Catlender, Tim Deremo, Shawn Hogan, Sandra Hynds, and John Sacco were among the 39 paramedics throughout Ontario that received medal bars at the ceremony in November.

The first bar is for 30 years of service, the second is for 40 years and the third is for 50 years. Anderson was awarded his second bar while Catlender, Deremo, Hogan, Hynds and Sacco received their first bar.

The medal was created by the late Governor General of Canada Romeo LeBlanc in 1994. It "recognizes paramedics who have provided the highest standard of care and conduct."

They were presented by Richard Rohmer, honourary Lieutenant-General and honourary chief emeritus of the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs.

The organization promotes best practices and a culture of change in paramedicine. Association members oversee the work of 11,000 primary, advanced and critical care paramedics and 1,100 ambulances and 300 emergency response vehicles across Ontario.
