Friday, Feb. 16

Bernadette Connors at the Olde Village: Bernadette Connors plays at the Olde Village Free House, 196 Main St., Newmarket at 9:30 p.m. Bernadette and her four-piece band will be rocking your favorite covers and tunes from her album Monarch.

Goblets & Goblins Learn to Play Night: Ever wanted to explore the vast world of board games but didn't know where to start? Join Goblet & Goblins for its Learn to Play Event, where expert game masters will guide you through the rules and strategies of captivating games from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at 17766 Leslie St, Newmarket. Games include Betrayal at the House on the Hill, Catan, Mysterium and Wingspan. Tickets $8.

Board Gaming: Join local board game enthusiasts at Cardinal Press Espresso Bar at 200 Main St. Newmarket from 6 to 10 p.m. The games are provided and teachers are available, or you bring your games to teach others. Note from organizers: We don't tend to play a lot of 'traditional' board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Sorry! Let them know what you would like to play when you RSVP and they will bring those games.

Family Day Weekend Tree Adventure, Feb. 16 to 19: Go on a Family Day outdoor adventure by exploring tree-house villages during a two-hour experience. Travel from tree house to tree house along wood bridges and net walkways, then descend to the ground on slides and ramps. Enjoy other nature activities such as mini-treetop courses, play nets, and forest pathways. Lunar New Year Celebration: Pacific Mall, 4300 Steeles Ave. East in Markham celebrations the Lunar New Year at 7 p.m. with a  stage show, lion dance, orchestra, dances, martial arts, cultural demonstrations, and more.

Saturday, Feb. 17

Ice Wine and Pizza: Holland Marsh Wineries, 18270 Keele St, Newmarket invites you to bundle up and join them for its ice wine and pizza event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sample handcrafted ice wine and indulge in wood fired pizzas while supplies last. 

All About Love! Concert: Roman Soltys hosts a concert performed by a string quartet to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day and love with romantic pieces such as music from the opera Carmen by G. Bizet, Love’s Joy by F. Kreisler, Salut d’Amour by E. Elgar, popular romantic songs Besame Mucho, O Sole Mio, Moon River, Only You, Fly Me to the Moon, as well as pop hits by Celine Dion, Elton John, and the Beatles. At St. Paul's Anglican Church, 227 Church St., Newmarket at 3 p.m. Tickets $20 online or $25 at the door.

Baked with Love For a Cause: Ren's Pets in Newmarket holds a bake sale in support of Cupcake Day for the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

English Country Dance: Join the dance at Trinity United Church, 461 Park Ave. at Main Street, Newmarket from 2 to 4 p.m. Beginners welcome; all dances taught; you don't need to bring a partner. Admission by donation; your first class is free. Join the group on the first, third and (when there is one) fifth Saturday of the month.

Caribbean Fusion: Get your Caribbean Fusion on with a performance by the DOAHL Academy, then join them for a dance workshop and learn some of the moves. Whether your vibe is hip hop, African or contemporary, this workshop promises to be a fun for all ages, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Aurora Public Library

Black History Month art exhibition, to Feb. 29: This year's exhibit presented by NACCA interprets the theme Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now - Telling Our Story, Writing Our History by showcasing of Black Canadian history and experiences. The talented artists behind the pieces use their unique perspectives and artistic vision to convey the message of reclamation and empowerment. At the Old Town Hall, 460 Botsford St., Newmarket, free admission. 

Connon Nurseries Winter Farmers Market: Connon Nurseries, 1870 Davis Dr. West, King, holds a farmers market with an array of vendors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until March 30.

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, snow or sun, or blizzard (unless extreme.) Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Newmarket Family Fun Day: Enjoy free recreational activities at the Town of Newmarket Family Fun Day at the Magna Centre and Recreation Youth Centre & telMAX Indoor Skate Park at 56 Charles St. Check out the activities here, some require pre-registration.

Mind Bender's Magical Mystery Tour: Mind Bender is thrilled to present the most magical Family Day event at Theatre Aurora, 150 Henderson Dr., doors open at 1 p.m., show at 2 p.m. With a track record of performing across Ontario, captivating audiences at birthday parties, summer camps, and schools, Mind Bender has enchanted thousands of children throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Aurora's Arctic Adventure: The Town of Aurora invites you enjoy frosty Family Day fun in the Aurora Town Park, 49 Wells St., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with snow tubing, Nerf axe throwing, mock ice fishing, Great Canadian Lumberjack Show, fire buskers, live ice carving demonstration and more. Delicious food on site includes Catarina's Kitchen, Optimist Club of Aurora and Churricos. Or grab something tasty from the Armoury's pop-up cafe. A nominal fee for food applies. 26th Annual Newmarket Voice Festival, Feb. 20 to 24: The Newmarket Voice Festival will be held Feb. 20 to 24, with a Concert of the Stars Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Town Hall in Newmarket. Categories offered in musical theatre, popular voice, classical voice, songs from the screen and more, and speech arts for performers of all ages five and up. Professional adjudicators provide written and verbal feedback to each participant and recommend singers and actors for the OMFA Provincial Finals in Oakville June 10 to 15.
