Street gangs from the Greater Toronto Area are branching out beyond their traditional turf, chasing hefty drug profits in rural, northern and First Nations communities across the province.
The alarming trend was chronicled in the first installment of Village Media's The Big Read: How Toronto-based street gangs are terrorizing small-town Ontario.
Antonio Nicaso, one of the world's leading experts on organized crime, was a recent guest on Inside the Village, a news and current affairs podcast produced by Village Media. He explained why big-city street gangs are targeting smaller communities in Ontario, and what local police forces can do to try to stop them.
