Downtown Main Street Newmarket is about to be transformed into a winter wonderland and the municipality is inviting you to take part.

The town is launching its first-ever Ice Lounge on Main Thursday, Feb. 22. The town’s newest event will transform a portion of Main from Water Street to Park Avenue into an outdoor winter lounge, with festivities beginning at 5 p.m. and a welcome from the mayor at 7:30 p.m.

“With its apres-ski vibe, visitors can enjoy expanded restaurant options, igloo lounges and fire pits, entertainment and more all weekend long,” the municipality said in a news release.

The all-new event will involve the closure of a portion of Main Street to make way for weekend-long festivities. Live entertainment will be running throughout the weekend and guests are permitted to have alcohol outdoors throughout the event area.

Newmarket has involved the Main Street BIA, with plans to offer expanded restaurant options. Igloo lounges and fire pits will also be put up throughout the street.

Mercedez-Benz, sponsoring the event, will also be part of the welcome for the event.

"Our continued partnership with the Town of Newmarket allows us to give back to the community in a fun and creative way, and I'm looking forward to seeing the community at Ice Lounge on Main,” managing partner Brian Fulton said on the event website.

The mayor’s welcome announcement will take place near the outdoor bar at Main and Park.

The event will continue all weekend long from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.

The town also announced that the event will mean a closure of Main from Water to Park. The closure will begin Feb. 21 at 10 p.m. and end Feb. 26 at 7 a.m.
